Why is my website offline?
Updated: 2025/09/30Viewed times: 26068
There are many reasons why you may not be able to see your website. The majority of these reasons fall into these 3 categories:
- Domain Server Hold
- You can check your domain status on WHOIS. If the Domain Status shows "ServerHold" (see example below), your domain will not resolve while under this status. You will need to address the issue first before the domain can function normally. (Please check your recent email records to see if there is any notification about this or contact us for further assistance.)
- Name Server Propagation
- If you recently set your name servers / DNS records, your settings may not have propagated yet. Domain propagation depends on the Registry of your domain. It can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours (extremely rare) to propagate worldwide.
- If the propagation has completed but the website is still offline. The website or the old name server settings for your domain may be cached, you can try refreshing your site a few times or clearing your cache.
- Name Server Misconfigured
- Your web host has not set up their name servers to handle web requests for your domain yet. We recommend contacting your web host about the issue.
