Dynadot takes account security seriously. This is why we don't just rely on your username and password to ensure the security of your domains. In addition to the "Security PIN" you are required to enter, you can also set up 2 step verification to add another layer of security to your account.

We offer the following security options that you can add to your account for 2 step verification:

• SMS Authentication: You will receive a verification code via text message that you must enter along with your "Security PIN" to unlock your account.
• Authenticator: This is a smartphone app that gives you a time sensitive verification code to enter along with your "Security PIN" to unlock your account.
• Security Key: This is a physical USB drive that connects with your devices, including computers and laptops, to prove identity to access specific resources on a network. Similar to an OTP(one-time password), a security key can be used to authenticate a user whenever they wish to access specific resources or need to log in to their accounts on a website or an application.
• Backup codes: You'll receive 10 single-use backup codes for two step verification, in case you lose access to your phone or security key.

If you're looking for the highest level of security, you can turn on all the two-step verification methods. That means you'll have to go through each one, plus enter your Security PIN, to unlock your account.

Important Update (Effective August 18, 2026):

• For accounts created on or after August 18, 2026, a Security PIN is No longer used for account unlocking. Instead, your account password is used to unlock the account.

• For accounts created on or after August 18, 2026, backup codes are enabled automatically and sent to you via email once your email address is verified during account creation. If you disable them manually, re-enabling later will require a primary two step verification method to be set up first.
